Norrkoping Science park has a wide network of tech companies and always strives to convey the latest trends as well as creating opportunities for business to meet. Norrkoping Science Park is also a part of the regional innovation initiative Visual Sweden. Visual Sweden is a part of the region’s strategy for smart specialization, wherein visualization and simulation are some of the prioritized segments. Visual Sweden is an initiative based in Ostergotland, Sweden, oriented at promoting innovation and regional growth within the visualization and image analysis fields. The visionary aim of the initiative is to establish the region of Ostergotland as the most attractive innovative environment for visualization and image analysis in Europe.
In the inner harbor of Norrkoping, a new community will emerge. To take the step forward into the future, it would be desirable that this community becomes a “smart community” and set the norm for how we can continue to build or “update” other parts of the city. A city can be considered as “smart” when its investment in human and social capital and in communications infrastructure actively promote sustainable economic development and a high quality of life, including the wise management of resources implemented through a participatory government. Smart Cities must be considered as systems of people who interact and use flows of energy, materials, services and financing to catalyze sustainable economic development, resilience, and a high quality of life; these flows and interactions are “smart” through the strategic use of ICT infrastructure and services within a transparent urban planning and management process that responds to the social and economic needs of the society”.
The challenge is to create feasible visual representations for an innovative vision of how life can look in a smart city in 2030, based on the global goals of Agenda 2030
